Grounded. Down to earth. Humble. These are just a few words that I’ve resonated with throughout my life. I didn’t always feel this way. I used to take being called humble as a sign of weakness as many people associate the term with meekness or being unconfident. At that time, people who I considered confident would of course display it in their body language, the way they socialized, etc. But I got the sense that they thought they were at the precipice of growth or their learning and growing was complete.

This was shown in the way advice and constructive criticism was shunned. Almost a sense of arrogance or condescension. However, I know we as humans are not perfect and, in my opinion, should strive to be a student of life, never to stop learning and growing. This mindset could possibly come from my upbringing as I was always taught the virtues of humility and the importance of taking a kinder approach to my interactions with others, as I would want to be treated with kindness as well.

“Perhaps wisdom…is realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.”
